The Changing Face of the Pharmaceutical Industry

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Stone] Joshua Stone Fill prescriptions and hand out pills? If only it were that simple! Those who pursue a pharmacy profession perhaps might have cause to wonder just how so much politics got mixed with their job? Plan B, the "morning after" pill
It hovers conveniently between being a contraceptive and an abortion aid. It is one or the other, certainly, but how? And do you have moral grounds to refuse to fill a prescription for it? How about the legal grounds? That's what pharmacists are asking all over the country. Plan B is nothing more than a high dose of the synthetic hormone progestin the same ingredient in traditional birth control pills. Sold in the US, it can be used to prevent pregnancy for up to five days after sex though it is most effective when taken within 24 hours of intercourse. Plan B, its manufacturer says, reduces the odds of pregnancy by eighty-nine percent. Put another way, out of a hundred women having unprotected sex, typically eight will get pregnant; using Plan B, only one will. But researchers can't rule out the possibility that Plan B may also prevent implantation of eggs in the uterus, unlike a contraceptive which simply prevent the egg from being fertilized. They're not sure because under natural conditions some fertilized eggs fail to implant anyway. So in studies on Plan B, there is virtually no way to tell whether the failure to implant is natural, or caused by the progestin in Plan B and is hence an "abortion pill". To further muddy the waters, many anti-abortion groups have been branching out to oppose contraception, too. Some see a direct connection between the practice of contraception and the practice of abortion. Religious bodies such as the Catholic church have traditionally been against contraception anyway. This leaves pharmacists caught in the middle, with a few of them choosing sides. Some have actually refused to supply the pill, citing religious reasons. This is one debate that promises to drag out for a long time before pharmacists are sure exactly what they should do. Illegal here and legal there
The influx of Canadian pharmaceuticals in recent years has shown that not every American agrees with how their representative democracy regulates drugs. A kind of patchwork class struggle has ensued, with some opposing certain kinds of drugs on everything from financial to political to religious grounds and others being the elderly, infirm, or just plain liberal getting what they need however they can. Though it is still illegal to import pharmaceuticals from Canada or other countries outside the States, the government now says that it is backing off strict enforcements that have irritated elderly consumers buying cheaper Canadian drugs. However, the Bush administration still claims that importing Canadian drugs is dangerous because the medicines could be inferior or counterfeit. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has said that the shift in policy does not mean that Canadian drugs are safe, but that the agency has simply decided to refocus its resources. Called into question is the purity of motives. America still has no citizen-wide health plan to speak of, and citizens must rely on insurance. Meanwhile Canadians enjoy their health care free (well, taxed), and Americans are quick to cross a border to take advantage of a freer drug economy. One must question that if money weren't involved, would this even be an issue? The FDA's objections are based on the notion that Canadian drugs may be unsafe to take. Yet they seem to be good enough for Canadians to take... ADHD
Ritalin and other stimulants are increasingly shown to be doing more harm than good, while the diagnosis of Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity-Disorder is rapidly being shown to be quackery. That would have been heresy five years ago, when it was nothing but a rant for the occasional lone nut. But now child psychologists, neurologists, and pediatric physicians are starting to speak out on it. And they are making these strong accusations. There's the recently commenced FDA hearings, which pertain to reports of death, strokes and heart attacks in children and adults treated for ADHD Most recently the number one ADHD drug has been reported to cause strokes, some were sudden deaths and others were heart complications. Furthermore, the various drugs used to treat ADHD are always amphetamines, which are potentially as addicting as cocaine. And we prescribe it for half of the population, since the symptom list to ADHD reads pretty much like anybody could have it on a boring day. It is certain that somebody, somewhere in the system wants ADHD and amphetamine prescriptions to stay around, leaving families, parents, and doctors to wonder whether they are seeing a real disease being treated, or a corporate machine grinding them into it's bottom line. The marketing of drugs
Every country in the world bans the practice of direct-to-consumer drug advertising... except the United States. Here, consumers are subjected to a never-ending barrage of televised drug ads showing for an increasing array of patented chemicals to treat a mystifyingly trivial array of "diseases" and "disorders". TV commercials get more and more vague as to what, exactly, their product treats. Essentially, it amounts to taking pills for nothing. They actually have an acronym all their own: SMD, "Spontaneous Mass Diagnosis", where a new disorder is "discovered", then a bunch of patients are created who are potential customers for the pill the company which "discovered" the disorder. A serious backlash against this direct marketing and it's effect on the industry has yet to find a voice. Mostly passive controversy exists. Americans, as it turns out, are more liberal about drugs than we once thought, as even those who strongly oppose the commercial drug racket tend to shrug and say "But if somebody wants to take it, let them!" Will it get more controversial?
Much of these issues being raised are the result of advances in the way we practice medicine. But they are only a start. There are more advances in medical science being made today, and they will almost certainly lead to more political "hot-button" issues landing in the pharmaceutical industry's collective lap. What to Expect from the Home Study Process for Domestic Adoptions

By Katie Gee Whether you are considering doing an agency or independent adoption, one of the first things that you will have to do is to work with an agency to complete a Home Study. The Home Study is comprised of information that you give to the agency in the form of questionnaires, interviews and forms. For many couples, this is the most nerve racking part of the whole adoption process. The first thing you should do is to choose an agency that you feel comfortable with. You have to share a lot of information during the Home Study process and you need to feel good about the agency that is getting all of this information. Most agencies will hopefully try to make you feel as comfortable as possible during the process. They are not there to judge you or to give you a pass or fail grade. They are there to help you become a family. They recognize that in many ways it is not fair that adoptive families have to go through the Home Study process to become parents when they would not have to have a Home Study if they weren't building their family through adoption. The purpose of the Adoption Home Study Process is two fold. As a legal document, it lets the court know that families have met certain state and federal guidelines surrounding adoptive families. It also lets Birthparents who are choosing adoption to know that their child will be with a loving family in a safe home and they will be well cared for. Typically in agency adoptions the written Home Study that contains identifying information is not shared with the Birthparents, but non-identifying information is shared if they have questions. Birthparents are given a copy of the Home Study in many independent adoptions. Although each state has its own specific guidelines surrounding the Home Study, most states agree on the same basic information to be included in the Home Study. This basic information includes a local and nationwide police background check (sometimes done by fingerprints, sometimes done by name and social security number), a child sexual abuse, child abuse and sexual offender registry background check, a physical including blood work, a TB test and a drug screen, reference letters from friends, family and other people and a financial form that basically needs to show that there is more money coming in that going out. There are forms or questionnaires that cover such subjects as parenting, marriage, views on adoption and your fertility process. You can expect to write a short autobiography and should receive a basic outline for the autobiography from your agency. You will have individual interviews and interviews conducted as a couple. At some point, the agency will conduct a home visit. During this visit you will need to have working fire alarms, a fire extinguisher and you will need to show that any fire arms you own are locked and secured so that no children can get to them. Although the Home Study is quite extensive, it takes a lot to not be approved as an adoptive family. Minor offenses that happened 20 years ago or traffic violations typically do not affect being approved as an adoptive family. Illnesses that are controlled by medication and are not terminal or minor mental health issues that are controlled by medication and counseling typically do not affect the Home Study process either. Terminal illnesses, current police records, being on the sexual offender registry or child abuse registry are all things that would more than likely keep you have having an approved Home Study. Not being honest during the Home Study process can have a negative affect on approval as well. If you have a police record and do not discuss it with your casework, it can cause more problems in the long run, even if it was just a minor incident. They will find any records, arrests, charges you have had when they do the background check even if the charges were dropped, so it is best to be up front about everything. Many agencies also have agency specific guidelines or items that they include in the Home Study. Some agencies might include information about your religion, even including a statement of faith. They might ask you about your views on disciplining and have a special section in the Home Study that discusses your discipline plans for your child. They might have you fill out a form that states what kind of placement you feel comfortable with including Birthparent medical and social background and activity during pregnancy, such as a Birthmother who smokes during her entire pregnancy or a Birthfather whose family has a history of Schizophrenia. Many agencies want a statement from you about openness and adoption and how you feel about continued contact with the Birthparents, sharing pictures and letters and talking you to your child about adoption. When doing an agency adoption, you may have to go through a Home Study group with other couples who are currently going through the adoption Home Study Process at the same time you are. The groups are like the educational part of the Home Study. They will include such topics as talking to your child about adoption, openness in adoption, meeting Birthparents, grief and loss surround infertility and how to put together a picture profile/resume to be shown to Birthparents. Sometimes Birthparents, adoptive parents and adult adoptees come and speak to the group about their adoption experiences so that you can get information from everyone's viewpoint. This is all the basic information that you can expect to be included in your Home Study process. You may find that the agency you use has a few additional things that they will have you do. You should feel comfortable asking your agency questions along the way and discussing what you need to have completed when they do the Home Visit, such as child proofing, fire extinguishers, etc. You need to remember that they are here to help you become a family, not to judge you or stamp you with a pass or fail grade. Work with your agency and be open and honest during the process. By doing these things, it will help your Home Study process to go smoothly and it will be easier on you in the end. What The Heck Is A Ring Bearer

By Dennis Estrada The ring bearer is a young boy who walks the wedding aisle to bring the fake or real wedding rings. The wedding rings sits on a wedding ring bearer pillow. He may bring the fake or real wedding rings. For the real wedding rings, the wedding rings are sewn or tied on the pillows. The wedding ring bearer pillows dates back from the Roman and Egyptian old traditions. The pillow is use to carry silver and gold stones. Today, the pillow carries the wedding rings. The wedding rings symbolize the continuous flow of love. There is no beginning or end. Love travels around endlessly in circles for better or worse. Marriage unites the couple to the happy or sad times. By the way, it is bad luck to buy the wedding rings and engagement rings at the same time. The ring bearer is usually ages from 4 years old to 8 years old. You may want to choose between those ages. Young boys who are under 4 years old easily get confused. And, he does not understand the importance of ring bearer wedding roles yet. For a young boy, the ring bearer is a big role. Especially, he is carrying the important wedding rings. Many bride and groom replace the wedding rings with fake wedding rings. It is the bestmen role to keep the real wedding rings or secure the fake wedding rings. To ease the pressure on the ring bearer, the bride and groom may replace the wedding rings with fake wedding rings, and leave the real wedding rings to the bestman. If you can't find a young boy who can handle the big role, you can always leave the wedding rings to the bestman. And, you can skip the part of ring bearer. The ring bearer wears a tiny cute tuxedo. The tuxedo may look similar to a bestman. The parents of the ring bearer buy or rent the tuxedo. Today, the bride and groom may pick up the tab. The tuxedos are available on department stores, bridal shops, and tuxedo rental shops. At a young age, a simple walk and ring bearer duty is a big role. You may work with the parents. So, the ring bearer can understand the role. The parents of the ring bearer can also sit on the wedding aisle to keep an eye and cherish the big role of him. Secret Jobs Search Tips To Help Separate You From the Pack

By Carl Mueller There is certainly a lot of information available regarding how to properly manage your job search. Sometimes, the obvious things get overlooked and it can be easy to forget things that should be adhered to when looking for a new job. Here are several hints that I remind candidates when I'm helping them with their job search. 1. Companies Hire People Who They Like All things being equal, hiring managers will hire people that they like. If there are two candidates for a job with equal skills but with different personalities one candidate comes across as a likeable and happy person, the other candidate comes across as arrogant and aloof the likeable and happy candidate will most likely be hired. Sure, you need to bring the appropriate skills and experience to the table but do you think a smart hiring manager is going to bring someone on board who they think might disrupt their other employees and cause trouble if they are hired? One of the job search tips that people forget is the importance of personality in the decision-making process. Employers are hiring a person, so remember to let them know your personality and who you are. 2. Companies Hire People to Solve a Problem or Fill a Need Companies dont hire because they have an empty desk, they hire someone because they have a problem or need that needs to be addressed. Your goal right through the job search process - from writing your cover letter/resume to completing the reference checks - is to let the employer know you are the single best person that can solve their problem(s). Employers don't know want to know what you've done. Employers want to know what you will do for them. Your cover letter and resume and the interview process is used to determine who is most suited to fix this problem or need. Also, always be sure to address the needs of the company in your resume and during the interview process. Focus on what the company needs from you, not on what you want from them. 3. Have a Sense of Urgency Timing is everything and this certainly applies when searching for a job. Sitting back and waiting for a job to land in your lap is not going to happen. You cant afford to wait for things to happen because chances are that once you start applying for jobs, youll be waiting for the company to respond. When you are waiting for a response from a company, you are at their mercy because they are working on their schedule at that point. Ive seen cases where a hiring company Im working with comes to me looking to hire someone and tells me that they are desperate to find this person and theyd like to hire them as soon as possible. I find them several great candidates that I send them... then they tell me that the hiring manager has gone on holiday for two weeks and they cant do anything until that person returns. Unless the company is truly desperate to hire someone perhaps in the case where the person who previously held the job quit suddenly or was fired you are probably going to work off of their schedule so you might be waiting around as it is so having a sense of urgency early in your job search is the best way to go. Treat your job search with a sense of urgency. Also, don't confuse urgency with desperation. 4. The Early Bird Gets The Job Email has made it so easy for people to submit resumes quickly, hiring managers often use various techniques to quickly cull the submissions they receive down to a short list. Ive actually heard of hiring managers who will pick up a stack of recently submitted resumes and simply making their short list from that pile. If you happen to send your resume in several days later, you wont be considered! When a job posting has a deadline, believe it. By the time the deadline passes, the hiring manager probably has more than enough resumes to read through and they might have already starting putting a short list together. Unless there is a specific reason why youd wait until the last minute to submit your resume, ensure it arrives as early as possible. Managing The Boss Is Essential To Career Success

By Ramon Greenwood Your boss is the gatekeeper of your career. Unless you are able to
manage a positive relationship with him at each step in your career you
will fall short of your potential. Like it or not, never forget he is the portal through which you connect
with the rest of the organization and its resources. Your boss is the one
who can pass you along for promotions, or he can stop you dead in your
tracks. He is the first hurdle you must get over to get more responsibility
and more money. Your plans and budgets must gain his approval, says
Ramon Greenwood, head of CommonSenseAtWork.com. Bosses are not abstract boxes on organization charts. Bosses are
human beings, not much different from you and me. On any given day, bosses can appear as a parent who is respected,
feared or barely tolerated. They can be mean, insecure, domineering,
and even crazy in varying degrees. They can be competitors and
roadblocks or they can be enablers who will help you to advance your
career. They are people with whom you will have conflicts, that is if you
are pushing to the limits of your abilities and ambitions. There are seven rules of the road that lead to a positive boss
relationship. (1) The first rule is an especially hard one to accept: everybody has a
boss, like it or not. Few achievers like the notion of having a master.
Accepting authority is basically at odds with many of the attributes
required for success. Managers report to department heads. Vice Presidents are responsible
to executive vice presidents. Presidents report to chairmen of the board
who report to directors who report to shareholders. Mom and Pop
running neighborhood quick-shop markets have some of the toughest
bosses in the world, their customers. Many years ago a Danish zoologists proved that even in the barnyard
chickens work within the reality of a strong hierarchy. There is always a
top chicken. It can peck other chicken in the yard to show who is boss.
The second level chicken can peck those at the lower levels, and so
goes the pecking order. (2) Always respect the hierarchy. Make the extra effort to respect your
boss and his experience. You dont have to like the idea of having a
boss. Just recognize reality. (3) Work to make your boss look good in the eyes of his boss. Work
diligently to get him or her promoted. Opportunities are created for you
when your boss gets promoted. (4) Never, never go around your boss. Work with and through him. You
may believe your boss to be incompetent and a roadblock to all the
great things you can do for the business. This may be true, but you put
yourself in extreme danger if you elect to circumvent your boss. The
hierarchy will close ranks to protect itself from such violations. It must do
so to survive. (5) Know that bosses make mistakes, too. When your boss errs do
everything you can to cover his backside and help him to get back on
track. (6) Keep your connections with your boss on a strictly professional
basis. Never rely on friendship with your boss.
Diogenes, the Greek philosopher, had some good advice on this point:
A man should live with his superiors as he does with his fire; not too
near, lest he burn; not too far, lest he freeze. (7) Develop a relationship of mutual dependency between yourself and
your boss. You depend on him for support and endorsement. He
depends on you for the hard work and talent that help him succeed. If, after all is said and done, you still cant get along with your boss and
the existing hierarchy; find another position in another organization. But
remember, wherever you go, you will always have a boss. Ramon Greenwood is former senior VP of American Express; a

Daisies A Story About Life

By Candee Stark "I love daisies too," she told him several nights after they first met. She wasn't sure why she blurted it out but it seemed the normal thing to say considering the conversation they were having. They were talking about "favorite things" the way you do when you are trying to get to know someone. Small talk that keeps the conversation flowing: "My favorite color is green, 18 is my lucky number, and my favorite food is pizza." When she jokingly asked if he had a favorite flower he replied, "Nope, but my mom loves daisies." She brightened up immediately because daisies have long been one of her favorites and she was impressed that he knew what type of flower his mother liked the best. They began to spend more and more time with each other until their relationship seemed like a night in August; hot and steamy. Before long wedding bells rang and the happy couple started their lives together as man and wife. He loved to bring flowers home, usually roses but occasionally he would bring home mixed flowers or carnations. He never needed a holiday or special occasion, he did it because her expression never changed, she was always genuinely surprised by his thoughtfulness. As with many marriages, it wasn't long before their home was filled with the cries of a baby; a baby boy named after his father. Many floral arrangements were sent to the happy mother to celebrate the birth of her child, including two dozen long stemmed roses with a card that read, "Thank you for our son, I will always love you!" The baby grew up quickly and before his parents could believe it, he was celebrating his fifth birthday. On the day of his birthday, the father pulled his son aside before his party started to have a "father~son" talk with him. The mother noticed and just smiled because she thought her husband was reminding their son to behave and be a good boy at the party. The party was fun for everyone that attended, young and old alike. After the presents were opened, the little boy turned to his mother and said, "Mommy, I have a present for you too." He walked out of the room and returned almost instantly with a gigantic bouquet of daisy flowers. His mother couldn't believe her eyes and she wondered how her little boy could have possibly known that she loved daisies. It was then that she remembered the "father~son" talk earlier in the day. She turned to her husband and asked, "How did you ever remember?" He smiled and replied, "Your favorite number is 18, you love the color green and pizza is your favorite food, right?" "Right, but you have given me flowers so many times and you have never, not once given me daisies," she continued, "I just thought you had forgotten after so many years." He just smiled and said, "The moment you told me your favorite flower, I knew our son would give you daisies on his fifth birthday." She looked confused so he continued, " I gave my mother daisies for the first time on the day I turned five too!" "The first time?" she asked. "Yup, my father pulled me aside on the day of my fifth birthday and I have given daisies to my mother every year since." Now his wife was genuinely shocked. "You have given your mother daisies every year since you have been five?" "Yes, I do it because I love her and I am happy that she is my mother," he answered. With surprise in her voice she asked, "How come you never told me that you did such a thoughtful thing for your mom?" "Simple," he said, "I didn't want to ruin your surprise!" 2005, Candee Stark and Flowers & Garden.com This article is provided courtesy of Flowers-and-Garden.com -You may freely reprint this article on your website or in your newsletter provided this courtesy notice and the author name and URL remain intact. A Tanning Bed Where You Stand Sounds Fun

By Terry Price Tanning beds are manufactured for both commercial and residential use. You will find two basic formats, horizontal tanning beds, which are more commonly found in commercial and residential use, or clamshell tanning beds, which are lined with tubular, ultraviolet lamps and for your comfort, a plastic or glass bench. The tanning bed is a remarkable invention, and all you do is lie down, close the lid and absorb the UV light into your skin. Halfway through the session, turn over to ensure that you get a good, even tan. Of course, using a good tanning bed lotion is essential. Another type of tanning bed is the stand up model, more commonly known as a tanning booth. All you do is step inside, close the door, and you are completely surrounded with ultraviolet bulbs. The booth is circular and there is no necessity to turn your body as it is exposed to UV on all sides. This type of tanning booth can be twice as fast as a clamshell tanning bed. Again, purchasing the best available tanning bed lotion is a necessity. A tanning bed called a high-pressure bed, is going to blast you with more UVA rays and fewer UVB rays. Because the lamps are made of quartz, the internal air pressure is higher than a conventional ultraviolet lamp and that filters out the unwanted UV rays more effectively. They have a great open-cage construction with no doors. This type of tanning bed is better suited for someone with an intermediate skin color or dark tone. Most indoor tanning beds will include high-pressure lamps in the face area. According to FDA requirements, all commercial indoor tanning beds are to include a timer that automatically shuts the lamps off at a certain time. With the advance of technology, there is always some new tanning bed product on the market to benefit you and give you a beautiful golden brown tan. Attracting Women Online: The Correct Way

By Kenneth Oboh Online dating can be a very efficient way of meeting new,
sexy and interesting women. But if you don't know the right
things to do when communicating with women on dating sites,
it can get very difficult to meet the kind of women you
want. I'm going to outline a few tips here to ensure that
you succeed and get a steady stream of women wanting to meet
you. Your screen name is your "first impression" in meeting women
online. When making up your screen name to register with an
online dating service, spend as much time as you need to
come up with a good screen name. Your screen name is, just
like your photo, one of the most important factors that will
determine your success with women online. It is very important when writing your profile to be a
little bit cocky but playful when describing yourself. You
see, women are drawn to very confident (but not arrogant)
men. This will INSTANTLY set you apart from all the other
"clueless" men out there trying to meet women online. For example, instead of saying "I am a 24 year old guy. I
love mountain climbing, reading books and clubbing in my
spare time. My favourite food is lamb chops", e.t.c. you
should say something like this instead: "Why does everybody keep asking me how old I am? Bunny
boiling stalkers everywhere I go! But if you're not a
stalker and you're good looking, then I definitely WANT to
hear from you. I'm 24 years old. (sshhhh! Don't tell
anyone!) I hate hobbies, why does everyone have to have
hobbies? But having said that, I once took a salsa dancing
class, it was in Southern Spain, glorious sunshine, fine
surroundings and impressive dance hall. The only problem was
I couldn't understand a damn thing the teacher was saying.
I'd signed up where it said 'Spanish Students Only.' If you
can do the salsa, I want another teacher, and please speak
English too. A nice looking girl, not a stalker, can do the
salsa, speaks English, Ohhh, absolute heaven!!" Do you see the difference? Which profile do you think looks
more interesting and is more likely to get a response from a
lot of women online? You guessed it, "Mr Salsa". Now, you
may think that by "cutting out" the girls who don't dance
the salsa, I'm limiting my response rate, but you'd be
surprised at what this kind of pre-qualifying or
selectiveness does for my success rate with women online. Now, here's a tip on how to get a girl to have "steamy cyber
sex" which might even sometimes lead to full sex, if you
play your cards right with her. As you're chatting with a
woman, (and this works best if you're discussing a fun topic
like physical hobbies or games in a playful way), you ask
her if she's ever had an online "massage." Whatever her
answer, you can then begin to describe why YOUR massages are
the best and what you would do to her if you were there
massaging her. Now, it is extremely important to NOT get too graphic with
your language and description too soon after you start the
"massage" talk. Let it just be purely about massaging and
wait for HER to be the one to escalate the flirting into a
direction where you can get more sexual. Remember, you don't
want her to think you're some freaky pervert. You're trying
to demonstrate CLASS, but in a way that will get you
fantastic results with women online. Would You Like To Discover Secrets To Attract & Seduce Any Woman

What Do Vacations And Your Business Have In Common?

By Debbie LaChusa It's summertime. That means if you're like most people
you've got a vacation planned. Maybe you're hopping on a plane to visit a tropical
locale like Hawaii. Or perhaps you're packing up the kids in the car and
going to visit family in Missouri. You might even be gathering up your camping gear and
heading to the mountains for some outdoor recreation
and relaxation. Whatever your vacation plans, I'm willing to bet that
you do have PLANS. Odds are you're not going to just wake up one day this
summer, and hop in the car and start driving. Or head
to the airport to try and catch a flight. When we take vacations, we create a plan. First we
decide where we want to go. Then we research the different
ways to get there. Will we drive? Will we fly?
Will we take a train? We take into consideration how much time it will take
to get there and how much it will cost. Then we make
plans that fit within our budget and accomplish our goals. By the time most of us leave on our vacation we've got
all the details of how we're getting there, what we're
doing while we're there, and how and when we're returning
home, outlined in an itinerary. This is just one example of an area of life that we always
plan. Others include going to college, getting a job,
getting married, starting a family, buying a car, buying
a home, throwing a birthday parties, celebrating an
anniversary ... the list goes on and on. For all of these activities we get a clear picture of what
we want (our goal) and we create a plan to get there. So why don't we do the same thing when it comes to
our business? That's a very good question. If you think about it, you've
got more at stake when it comes to your business than you
do many of these other activities. Your livelihood is at stake. Your ability to not only pay
your bills and meet your obligations, but also to live the
live you want to live. In fact, if your business isn't successful, you can't do
most of these other activities that we are so good at planning. So I want to ask you, do you have a marketing plan right
now that spells out what your goals are for your business?
And how you plan to get there? If not, start thinking about how big you want your business
to be. How much money do you want to make? How many clients
do you want to serve? And, once you've determined this, develop a plan to get there. Money Management For Couples

By Joseph Kenny Foremost among the reasons that lead to marital discord are financial issues. Most couples are unable to or find it extremely difficult to broach the topic openly and honestly. Although the reasons may be different for each couple, being disorganized and unable to communicate are common. In order to avoid serious consequences it is necessary to for couples to implement the art of budgeting and money management. Couples should avoid conflict over purchases made by each other and learn to respect each others opinions. The initial step is to sit down and discuss the income and expenditure. If there is a lack of communication, which is the case most of the time, this discussion could end in a heated argument. It is important to decide on a strategy before hand, to prevent an ugly situation. For example, get up and drink a glass of water, take a few deep breaths and go for a short walk and then resume the dialogue or invite a friend to be a part of the discussion. Make a list of all the bills that are pending and the amounts, highlighting the dates on which they need to be paid. Compare this with the joint income and in case of inadequate funds, try to find ways to reduce expenditure or increase income. Document all facts and figures so that they are easily available to your partner. Make a separate file for documents and papers related to insurance payments, credit card statements, car installments, monthly mortgage, utility bills and expenses. Remove them from the file only when they are paid. Decide on a common place accessible to both, to keep checkbooks, receipts and all relevant financial information. If there have been withdrawals from the joint account, each partner should let the other know the reason. Such discussions should be scheduled regularly. Financial planning should be an essential part of the discussions. Financial issues become stressful if not handled with care. Make a plan to ensure that both of you take turns to maintain checkbooks, file taxes and track investments. This will allow each partner to be aware of the financial details. Discuss and create a budget to suit both of you. Try to visualize finances for the next five or ten years. Large amounts of money are required for buying a house or a new car. The different ways in which you could save for these purchases should be discussed openly. When you set your goals, devise a strategy to achieve them. The plans would mainly comprise of eliminating debt and setting up a savings plan. One excellent way would be to save a certain percentage of the monthly income in a tax deferred account. You can also save and invest in securities and bonds. Financial mismanagement is generally a key factor in wrecking a happy marriage. In order to keep finances on the right track, proper communication is essential. Regular discussions and mutual decisions on the family budget and savings are sure ways to maintain the harmony among couples. Secrets to Better Relationships

By Alan Kintel All people strive for good relationships, whether it is with their parents, siblings, children, lovers, spouses or coworkers. Some people are even aware of how they strive for this but most are not. The two key ingredients for building a good relationship are trust and communication. And of these two, trust is the most important. And communication starts from self-knowledge. Self-knowledge is the beginning of communication. Its very hard, in the midst of a relationship, to admit that you have wants. Its so very easy to downplay your wants and desires and needs to avoid pressuring your partner. This even happens in professional relationships. If you ever find yourself walking on eggshells to avoid saying something that might upset the person youre in a relationship with, youve done this to yourself. Ultimately, what happens with this is that your subconscious will attempt to get what youre denying yourself and will start using tone of voice, word choice and inflections to try to manipulate the people youre relating to into giving you what you want but wont acknowledge. From their side, theyll accede a few times, which will tell your subconscious that this is a successful strategy and before youre even aware of it, youll be doing push-me/pull-you psychological warfare tactics suitable for prisoner interrogations on the people you love, which will cause them to stop trusting you. This habit and pattern is hard to break once youve gotten started in it. Its even harder to repair the damage if its gone on very long. Trust, once lost, is hard to regain. The key to beating this pattern is to sit back and look at the things in the relationship that scare you. And to explain to your partner that they scare you and to go over those fears one step at a time, in detail. One common fear in a relationship is a fear of being replaced, a fear of being abandoned. This is particularly common in the early phases of a relationship, after the first blush of infatuation has run its course. This manifests itself with one partner or the other being constantly needy or clingy, which will, if not addressed, manifest itself in the pattern of behavior described above. Its not hard to see this turn into full-blown jealousy, particularly if you see your partner giving someone else the behavior patterns you want to see turned on you. Eventually, a common ground is established, trust is built and a foundation for a lifelong partnership is made. Ways to combat these fears boil down to being up front and honest with your partner about what you fear. Its a scary thing to confront these issues because, by admitting what youre afraid of, youre letting your insecurities and doubts show to the one person youve let get close enough to you to do you serious emotional harm. Once youve set your fears on the table for cross examination, the next step is to set boundaries. Know what your boundaries are, discuss them with your partner and discuss his or hers, as well. Respect and negotiate your boundaries carefully and review them on a regular basis. As you grow closer, some thou shalt nots in relationships may soften or harden. And above all else, to thine own self be true. How to Build a Shed

By Marcus Peterson Nothing gives homeowners more joy than building their own sheds with their own designs and craft in their own gardens and lawns. Apart from satiating the creative palate, designing ones own shed also saves money. Sheds can be easily built using the shed kits that are widely available. These shed kits include all the frames, siding boards, doors, windows and other fixtures that go into building the shed. They are also available in all three material varieties that are commonly used to make sheds, including wood, poly vinyl carbonate, and metal. Building a shed from a shed kit gives a person some creative liberty and the satisfaction that a self-accomplished job provides. If one is enthusiastic enough, then a shed can be built right from scratch. Shed building only requires basic carpentry skills coupled with a sense of geometry. Simple tools like hammers, saws, screwdrivers, levels, drills are required with material such as wood for siding, shingles for the roof and doors and windows. But the most important input for building a shed is time and patience. The preliminary step for shed building is marking the site. Care should be taken that a perfect square (or rectangle) is outlined on the ground. This can be checked by measuring the diagonals and verifying if they are equal in length. Sheds dont need very strong foundations; a simple layer of concrete would do. But if the ground is prone to be frozen in winter, then the concrete foundation must be thinner. Also, there must be some attachment of the shed with the ground, or else a gust of heavy wind might just knock the shed down. Next step is the erection of the framework. The framework must be accurate and carefully checked for horizontality and verticality. Readymade frames are available that can be fixed with screws. Once the framework is in place, the siding boards are placed. The most demanding aspect of shed building is erecting a perfect perpendicularly aligned frame. Doors and windows are erected at desired places and are fixed with hinges and screws. The final step is the attaching of the roof. A flat or a sloping roof is easier to attach than a shingled roof. Sheds can be then painted in chosen colors to complete their look. For a touch of aesthetics, there are several creepers and trellises that may be grown on the walls and windows. Once a shed is built, the decoration and external appearance of the shed can be done in various creative ways. Building a shed on ones own not only saves money, but also gives creative satisfaction. Joseph Truini has written a detailed book on the subject called Build Like a Pro: Building a Shed that contains detailed information on shed building. Sheds provides detailed information about sheds, how to build a shed, metal sheds and more. Sheds is affiliated with Modular Home Plans.
